Thao will be playing solo during GRAMMY Festival at Sea this November!
The festival, which takes place aboard the Norwegian Pearl cruise ship, departs from Miami for the Bahamas on 11/4 and returns 11/8. It will also feature performances by Heart, Emmylou Harris, Indigo Girls, and many more.

A few things:
IMPORTANT: The location for this event has been changed to The Hotel Utah (500 4th Street @ Bryant) in SOMA. Please arrive at 3pm to meet the other members of the kazoo group and rehearse the Magik*Magik arrangement of “We The Common”.
Thao will join us around 4pm where we will play our song together. To finish out the experience, Thao will perform a short, unamplified solo set just for our kazoo orchestra. The event will conclude at 5pm.
All participants will be provided with a kazoo and music for their part. You needn’t bring anything besides yourself and a photo ID so we can check your name off at the door. There will be NO tickets available at the door, all entries must be purchased in advance. If you have friends who are interested in attending, we have released an additional 10 spots to this event, which can be purchased here. Thao & The Get Down Stay Down will be performing at the San Francisco International Film Festival on 4/29 at the Castro Theatre.
The band will perform with an assortment of classic, complex and funny films from the silent era. Included amongst them are Charlie Chaplin’s anarchic The Pawnshop, Robert Florey and Slavko Vorkapich’s groundbreaking The Life and Death of 9413: A Hollywood Extra, alchemical animation by Harry Smith and classic newsreels. The evening will also feature a few short works with sound, including original videos that Nguyen made in collaboration with filmmaker Lauren Tabak and one created especially for this event (SFFS).
